In 2002, the city of Guntersville, Alabama was chosen as Alabama ’s #1 Intimate Getaway spot in a survey that was conducted by the Alabama Bureau of Tourism and Travel. Guntersville is perhaps one of the most breathtaking and adaptable resort areas in the Southern United States , and also is proud to boast of one of the finest sport fishing lakes in American. The city of Guntersville is nestled at the base of the Appalachian mountain range. People from all over the world come to tour this impressive natural beauty and the colorful view that can only be offered by 950 miles of winding shoreline and an impressive 69,000 acres of clear and fun filled water that is Lake Guntersville . This beautiful lake offers its residents and many tourists boating, water skiing, fishing, and of course swimming.

 

 

In addition to the excellent water activities, the city of Guntersville also provides wonderful golfing opportunities near the area. The four golf courses that can be found here include; Gunter’s Landing, Stoney Mountain , Broken Arrow, and Lake Guntersville State Park . Apart from the outdoor water activities and the great golfing opportunities, Guntersville also provides a public library, the Mountain Valley Council on the Arts, the Guntersville

Lake Guntersville State Park , which is conveniently located just about seven miles away from the downtown area of Guntersville, provides 5,600 acres of outdoor enjoyment. The park even has an eighteen-hole championship golf course. In addition to the golf course, there are also hiking and biking trails, places to go camping, and a deluxe lodge and convention center.

 

 

The Cathedral Caverns State Park is located only about fifteen minutes north of Guntersville, and plays home to the world’s largest cave entrance, the largest frozen waterfall, and the world’s largest stalagmite and stalagmite forest. The Gunstersville Recreation Department provides its residents with an Olympic sized swimming pool, lighted tennis courts, softball and baseball fields, a gym and meeting room, as well as parks, playgrounds, walking and hiking trails, and a lighted bike trail. In addition to the two state parks located in and around Guntersville there are city parks which provide over one hundred and seventy five acres along the Guntersville Lake . These park facilities include a beach with designated swimming areas, picnic areas, boat launches, and public fishing piers. Guntersville provides many outdoor activities that are sure to provide your family with an enjoyable getaway.
