ffic. There are still two buildings standing from 1866, which serve to remind the residents of the towns beginning. Additionally, the houses around Bandstand Park were first built to house the railroad officials. The town of Lyndon had been around for seventy-five years before Lyndonville was even built. Lyndon’s first town meeting was held in 1791, the same year that Vermont became a state. The Lyndon Institute is only one of four independent and privately owned schools in Vermont . The Lyndon Institute is the designated high school for Lyndon and the surrounding area.

There is also a local college, the Lyndon State College, is a four year liberal arts school. The Lyndon State College started as a personal mansion for Theodore V. Vail, the first president of the American Telephone and Telegraph Company. An internationally known product of Vermont ’s, Bag Balm, is made by the Dairy Association of Lyndonville. Bag Balm is used for softening dry or chapped hands. And what’s a town if it doesn’t have its own town band. The town band of Lyndon first started in 1865. Lyndon is one small historical town.
