Paris . Perhaps everyone in the free world has heard of Paris . But have you heard about Paris, TX ? If you have heard of it, you probably don’t know a whole lot about it. The city is dotted with many beautiful old homes and public architecture that delivers a unique flair. The city often plays hosts to numerous cultural events throughout the year. The city also has many attractions that make Paris, TX a fun visit for the family. The best known attraction in Paris is the imitation Eiffel Tower . Standing at only sixty-five feet tall, it’s a much smaller version from the real one. However, this tower helped make Paris the “1995 Best Pit Stop”.

If you aren’t impressed with this small town already, maybe knowing that the residents of Paris put a cowboy hat in top of the tower in 1998 to make it more “Texanized”. Now that’s something to see. Apart from the imitation Eiffel Tower , there is also the Culbertson Fountain which resides in the Historic District on the downtown Plaza. The fountain was a gift to help culminate the rebuilding of the city after the Fire of 1916. As a Bicentennial project, the fountain is a unique focal point for many in the Paris an

d Lamar County . The fountain has even helped the downtown Paris plaza as being “the prettiest plaza in the State of Texas ” by Texas Monthly magazine. And a trip wouldn’t truly be a trip if it didn’t have any educational value. Don’t fret; the town of Paris is home to the Hayden Museum of American Art. This museum consists of four galleries, the largest houses a permanent collection of archival photography, American chairs, and graphic art. The museum includes pieces from every art period and many master American painters are on exhibit.  The pieces are even arranged in chronological order to show a complete history of the American art scene from Folk Art to the Contemporary.

An example of the unique architecture of Paris is the Paris Union Station Railroad Depot. This depot building is an outstanding piece of station architecture that used to be used along the Frisco Railroad Lines. The depot has now been made to accommodate the Lamar County Chamber of Commerce as well as the research library of the Lamar County Genealogical Society. When you get through looking around this interesting, yet quaint town, you can sit down in a casual restaurant that served authentic down home cookin’. The city of Paris will give you many memories and you will be able to say you have been to Paris !
