Williamsburg

North America » United States
Author: Jan

I had wanted to visit colonial Williamsburg for a long time so when we finally got there I had a hard time containing myself and deciding on everything that I wanted to do. Of course, Williamsburg is a great place to visit if you’re a history buff. If you’re not, I would imagine that it would be fairly boring and not very interesting. This is a great place for seeing re-creations and getting an idea of how early Americans lived. The actors do a great job of providing attention to detail and really helping you understand what it must have been like so long ago.

It would probably help if you boned up on some of your early American history before making the trip but I would think that even if you didn’t you would still learn quite a bit from a visit here. I know I certainly did.

The two biggest attractions in Williamsburg are Colonial Williamsburg and Busch Gardens. We started out at Colonial Williamsburg because I was so excited and I just couldn’t stand to not start there. We opted for the Independence <

span style="color: black;">Pass; which costs $69 per adult and $35 for youth 17 and under. That sounds like a lot of money up front but it’s really a good deal for the money when you consider that it includes evening performances, which are $12 a pop by themselves. There’s so much to do there that I could go on and on and on but suffice it to say that we had a great time and learned a lot. It’s a great place to take the kids to help them better understand the history of their country. Just be sure you check start times in advance and know which days certain events are offered or otherwise you might end up missing something you really want to see.

We also enjoyed Busch Gardens. If you’re going to be there for a few days, it’s really easier and cheaper in the long run to purchase the flex pass. That ticket includes parking, which normally costs $8 and allows you unlimited admission to the attractions in Williamsburg. Since the park closes about 6pm, this gives you a good chance to go back on a second day if you didn’t get everything done you wanted to see on the first day. If you’re planning to do the water park, make sure you bring an extra pair of clothing as well as swim wear and plenty of sunscreen and bottle water. It can get fairly hot in the afternoons.
