Getting to Antakya
We went to Antakya on our second trip, coming from Cappadocia and going to Syria.
From Cappadocia you need to get a bus to Kayseri. Our plan was to take a nightbus from Kayseri to Antakya. Unfortunately, our bus left Kayseri pretty early (around 7 pm and their was no later bus). They told us we would arrive in Antakya at 5am, and I thought there would be an early bus leaving for Aleppo around 6 am, so that would be OK. Unfortunately, the bus drove much faster so we arrived at 2.30 am in the morning, and that wasn't such a good experience in a city you don't know, where there's almost no lighting in the street.
Accommodation
There's a 4* hotel Buyuk Antakya Hotel costing 100 US$, but it gets bad repo
rts.
We stayed at the Hotel Istanbul. It wasn't too bad as emergency and for the 15 US$ for a double, but avoid the rooms on the street side because they are very noisy.
What to do
We wanted to go as quickly as possible to Syria, so we didn't visit anything. However, for extensive info on "what to see" in this region, go to the Antakya page of the "Turkey traveller"-site at
