Most people fly there by plane from Bangkok. You can either fly to Pnom Pen, or if you're only interested in Angkor Wat, it's better to fly directly to Siem Reap (as long as it's still possible, since Phnom Penh airport authorities are pushing to forbid international flights to Siem Reap). SR is a small city, warm and dusty and activity is low between noon and 3 pm.
There's a small market, some banks, a cybercafé in a sidestreet of the main road (1 US$ per mail), 2 disco's, some very good restaurants.

PP is a very busy city comparable to Saigon.
It's safe during the day, but be very careful at night. there were several reports of robberies on tourists on a motortaxi.

Teo Hotel is very nice at 10 US$ for a double with AC and hot water. Staff is friendly and they have a good restaurant.
Angkor Hotel is well located on street nr. 1 right across the street from Sangker river and near the market.
ODA is not so good at 5 US$ for a room with fan.
The Victoria hotel was closed down.
