You don't need a visa, but you do need a "tourist card". You have to apply for the tourist card at the Cuban Embassy in your country. This will set you back between 25 and 30 US$.
You also need a passport which is at least 6 months valid on the day of arrival in Cuba.

When booking a package tour, you will stay in one of the state-run hotels.
It's not always easy to book a room in one of the hotels even if they have vacancies, because often the booking of rooms is done centrally in Havana, and the local hotel cannot rent rooms independently.

A sleepy provincial town. Some say it's worth a visit, others don't like it and choose the village Vinales for it's nice setting in the valley. Getting there and away To/From Havana Viazulbus service : It's a intermediate stop on the line Havana-Vinales-Havana. The city offers you some nice neoclassical buildings especially around the park ?Jose Marti?

It's the capital of the province Las Villas. There's not so much to do. Museums and statues are almost all dedicated to Ché Guevara who brought Batista to his fall. Interesting enough for a one day visit. Nothing more, nothing less.
