Dallas

North America » United States

I think that most people who aren?t from the area tend to think of Dallas as being a lot like it was portrayed on the TV show with people walking around in tall cowboy hats and cowboy boots. You will see a lot of cowboy boots and a few Stetsons but Dallas can be surprisingly cultured, contemporary and even formal when the occasion calls for it as well.

Houston

North America » United States

Houston isn?t a city that I would want to drive in on a regular basis, but then I live in a rather rural area and I?m not accustomed to what seems like constant road construction and streets that say they go one way and then end up going another way. Putting all of that aside, it?s a good city to visit if you?re looking for a wide range of activities.

Galveston

North America » United States

If you?ve never been to Galveston, you should really try to make a visit there sometime. For Texans, it?s a popular getaway vacation spot just about any time of the year because the weather is so balmy and nice almost year-round. The busiest time of the year starts in spring and runs until late summer, but even then it?s worth a trip, if you don?t mind dealing with the crowds. Located about 50 miles southeast of Texas, you can take two routes to access the island.

Austin

North America » United States

Austin is one of those interesting cities that would be easy to pass through and not imagine that you would miss much, but when you do stop you?re glad that you did. As far as activities go, there?s not much here to compare to some of the larger cities but what is here is plenty interesting.

Nashville

North America » United States

Of course, you practically can?t visit Nashville without at least making an honorary stop at the Grand Ole Opry. It would be almost sacrilegious. The radio program that started it all was first aired from there in 1925 and has continued even unto today. It?s a far cry from the humble beginnings it started out as, though. I?m somewhat of a country music fan, via my parents, but my husband doesn?t like it at all.

Charleston

North America » United States

I found Charleston to be pretty much like I had always imagined it to be; genteel and strong as iron. This city has survived three hundred years of earthquakes, hurricanes and fires as well as many other disasters and still stands strong on the South Carolina coast. The beautiful antebellum homes have been lovingly restored and many of them are now home to museums.

Atlantic City

North America » United States

I had heard so much about Atlantic City I wasn?t sure what to expect when we arrived. Actually, in my mind, I compared it a lot to Las Vegas, but I think that was just because of the gambling similarities. While there is definitely plenty of gambling to be done in Atlantic City, even if you aren?t into the whole casino thing, there?s still plenty to see and do.

St. Louis

North America » United States

I was pleasantly surprised to find that there are numerous activities to do and things to see in St. Louis. Of course, we couldn?t visit the city without seeing the St. Louis Arch, but that turned out to be a surprise in and of it self. The Arch commemorates the city?s nickname, Gateway to the West. Lewis and Clark stopped here for provisions while they were on what would turn out to be a rather famous expedition.

Kansas City

North America » United States

The first time I visited Kansas City I swore I would never go back again. Of course, I had just driven through one of the worst storms of the year and arrived at my hotel to learn that my room had been given away. After getting the mess with the room sorted out and finally getting dried off and rested some, I decided to head out and give the city that calls itself the Heart of America another shot. I?m glad I did

Detroit

North America » United States

For several years, some of our family lived right outside Detroit so we had the chance to visit on more than one occasion while visiting family. I had always thought of Detroit as pretty much being and industrial type city and not worth visiting until I made my first visit. I was surprised at all there is to see and do in Detroit that isn?t related to cars, although there is plenty of that too.
