Bhutan - Tongsa

Asia » Bhutan

Accommodation

I stayed at the Puenzi Guesthouse 4 km out of town. The place is OK, rooms have electrical heaters and hot showers. Food is OK.

What to do

- Highlight is of course the dzong there. It is spectacularly set along a mountain. At the moment, an Austrian team is renovating the place, but we could still get in.
- Afterwards we went to Kuenga Rabten, a former winter palace of the king. The building is very nice, and we were lucky to get a guided tour into the former bedrooms and living rooms; There's now a l
ibrary and a school for young monks.
- Along this way, you'll see the most spectacular waterfall I saw in Bhutan. It's about 50 m high.

Getting out

The trip back to Timphu is pretty long. We left early at 6 am.

It took us:
- from Trongsa to Pele La 2h15 minutes
- from Pele La to Wangdue 1h50 minutes
- from Wangdue to Dochu La 1h30 minutes
- from Dochu La to Timphu 45 minutes
