Dogubayazit-Van
There's either a direct bus to Van (leaving in the morning), or a bus to Agri in the afternoon where you have to change buses. We took the last option, and arrived in Agri around 4 pm. Unfortunately, all the connecting buses to Van were full, so we had to spend the night there. You might think "Waw, typical Eastern Turkish town, no tourists, that's my idea of adventure". Well, don't count on adventure. Accomodation there is very basic. I slept in a dormitory with Turkish men. I had to go to the toilet every 2 hours, either to vomit or to get rid of my diarrheal stools, not my best memory of my trip there. We were also woken up in the middle of the night by someone making a lot of noise at the door who wanted a room. In brief, avoid a stop at Agri if you can.
The bus from Agri to Van takes 3 to 4 hours.
Accommodation
We stayed at the excellent Hotel Bayran, which is a good middle class. They have a laundry service, a bit overpriced of course, but reliable.
What to do
The
rock of Van is of course worth a visit. The view of the rock is better then the ruin itself. It dates from 800 BC.

You need to wait till there are enough passengers to fill up the small boats. If there aren't enough, you will have to pay more. On the island is an Armenian church with beautiful reliefs.
